ABB to develop 1,200 kV circuit breakers for India
Recently, ABB stated that it will develop a new equipment that can reduce the floor space by 60%-1200 kV circuit breaker . This is also the circuit breaker equipment with the highest AC voltage
level in the world . ABB will jointly develop it with engineers in India, and the National Grid Corporation of India will also provide it.
The newly designed 1,200 kV circuit breaker will be installed at the National Test Station built by State Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) in the Bina district of Madhya Pradesh, India. At present,
India”s domestic electricity demand continues to grow, posing severe challenges, which also causes India”s installed power generation capacity to continue to increase. But at the same time, the
construction of efficient and reliable power transmission and distribution facilities has become a link that cannot be ignored in development.
Since high-voltage transmission technology has significant advantages in areas such as transmission capacity and losses, it has also become a promising technology in the development
of India”s power grid. India has begun to develop a power transmission system with the highest AC voltage level in the world , and Bina”s test station will also undertake on-site testing tasks.
At the same time, high-voltage power transmission technology also has a major feature, that is, it can effectively reduce the floor space.
The 1,200 kV circuit breaker planned to be developed by ABB will occupy about 60% less space than traditional equipment due to its new design. The core components are placed in a
shell filled with insulating gas and are not easily affected by the environment. The overall earthquake resistance of the equipment will be significantly improved.
More than a hundred years of accumulation empowers Chinese-style modernization, and builds the electric power industry based on the tiny foundation of installed products.
ABB launches range of medium voltage cable accessories
BEIJING , Nov. 2, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — ABB recently launched the SoliMold medium-voltage cable accessories product series, which can be used in 1-35kV working voltage locations.
The electrical withstand voltage performance is 30% higher than the national standard, and the installation time is shorter than traditional The product is
greatly shortened and is suitable for large power consumption places such as power companies, petroleum and petrochemicals, rail transit, wind power and photovoltaic fields, metallurgy,
and airports, silently guarding the stability of urban power grids in every detail.
At the 1893 Chicago World”s Fair, inventor Edison was promoting his lighting system. The low-voltage power cables were laid on the ground. They were trampled by pedestrians and crushed
by horse-drawn carriages. The cables and light bulb connection points became extremely vulnerable to damage. Two young people, Thomas and Betts, who had just graduated from MIT, had a keen
insight into this phenomenon, and subsequently invented the world”s first cable protection device. Against this background, they founded Thomas & Betts (now part of ABB).
“The birth of a great company begins with small but important discoveries, just like whether it is electrical equipment or large-scale power systems, the use of installation accessories is
essential when deploying them. Electrical installation products truly embody how to make small but important discoveries. , ensuring the high quality of power projects in every detail, achieving
the great power industry, and supporting the ambitious goals of China-style modernization.” said Dr. Dong Gang, head of installation products at ABB Electric China.
From heaven to earth, empowering thousands of industries with “high-quality” installation
In 2012, ABB completed the acquisition of Tongbei Company and became a global industry leader in the design, manufacturing and sales of installation products for
industrial, construction and power industries. It has 38 high-quality sub-brands to date, covering cable ties, ports and connectors . , stent conduits and medium voltage
cable assemblies and more than 200,000 products. “Installation
products basically have to match where electricity goes. ABB installation products are widely used in various electricity consumption situations around the world.” Dong Gang said proudly.
From an application perspective, ABB installation products can be roughly divided into three categories: electrical management, connection and
protection. In electrical management applications, ABB is the global inventor of cable ties. The standard Ty-Rap cable tie was patented in 1958 and was
originally developed for bundling aircraft wiring. The tie”s tensile strength, durability, low cost and easier
Installation is a revolutionary invention for the wiring industry. Since its inception, ABB has produced more than 30 billion cable ties. If these cable ties were
connected end to end, it would be enough to travel between the earth and the moon more than ten times.
