ABB and IBM jointly announce plans to jointly develop high-end industrial artificial intelligence
On April 26, according to Xinhua News Agency, Swiss ABB Group and American IBM recently announced at the Hannover Industrial Fair in
Germany that the two parties will jointly develop high-end industrial artificial intelligence and combine ABB”s digital solutions with IBM”s “Watson”
Internet of Things. The combination provides users with new solutions to major challenges in the industrial field, such as strengthening quality
control, reducing downtime, increasing industrial process speed and output, etc.
One application of the new solution is embedding real-time cognitive analytics into industrial product inspection processes to automate quality
control. ABB”s system is responsible for capturing real-time product images and analyzing them through IBM”s IoT cognitive computing technology
to quickly identify substandard products.
This solution can alert producers to critical faults that cannot be identified by the human eye during the product component assembly process,
allowing quality control experts to quickly intervene. This improves production line output while also improving production accuracy and product consistency,
helping manufacturers avoid costly product recalls and reputational damage.
In the field of smart grids, new solutions can help customers optimize operations and maintain smart grids by extracting historical and weather
data to predict patterns on the power supply side and demand side. Temperature, light and wind speed forecasts will be used to predict power
consumption demand, helping customers determine optimal power load management and real-time electricity prices.
ABB Group CEO Spiesshofer told Xinhua News Agency that the new solutions will provide many opportunities, especially in the energy transition.
By increasing investment in renewable energy and integrating it into smart grids, it is expected to generate an output value of US$7 trillion over the next 25 years.
ABB launches new OmniCore controller and IP67-rated IRB 1100 robot powered by it
ABB has launched a new version of the IRB 1100 robot and OmniCore controller. The new product design has enhanced waterproof and
dustproof functions to cope with harsh use environments. The new IRB 1100 model has an overall protection rating of IP67 and all electrical components
are sealed to prevent contamination .
Sealed components prevent dust from entering the interior of the robot, providing complete protection. Rugged, compact IP67-rated IRB
1100 robot powered by new OmniCore™ C90XT controller to handle the toughest conditions
For manufacturers , the new IP67 protection rating enables robots to be used in workplaces that generate large amounts of dust, water
and debris, including 3C polishing, wet grinding, polishing and deburring .
The IRB 1100 is ABB”s most compact and fastest robot with best-in-class repeatability. The IRB 1100 is available in two models: one with
a 4kg payload reaching 475mm and the other with 580mm.
The new OmniCore C90XT expands the comprehensive OmniCore controller family, bringing all the benefits of its best-in-class motion
control and path accuracy to harsh environments. The C90XT is a ruggedized compact controller with IP54 protection rating for compact installation
in dirty, wet and dusty processes.
XT stands for “Extremely Tough.” The controller also provides additional internal space to support communication with process-related
equipment, conveyor tracking and external axes, while its lean format allows it to be installed in tight spaces. C90XT is the industry’s smallest
high-protection robot controller.
The IRB 1100 has consistently outperformed similar robots in terms of payload and position repeatability, and ABB”s OmniCore controller
has been recognized for its best-in-class path accuracy and cycle times. Featuring enhanced protection levels for harsh environments, the IRB
1100 and C90XT controllers are ready to handle the toughest workplaces, with digital technologies from ABB Robotics and Discrete Automation
while maintaining the high reliability and fast cycle times customers demand.
